How Often Do I Need a Dental Cleaning?

June 29, 2020

We’ve all been trying to stay home more than normal to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This has resulted in putting off regularly scheduled appointments, including the dentist.

It’s important for your dental health to visit the dentist at the very least once a year. But, the recommendation to keep your dental health in best shape is once every six months.

Why Is It Important to Get Your Teeth Cleaned?

It may seem that flossing and brushing two times a day is enough for our dental health, but this isn’t true. Professional cleaning removes plaque, yellowish build-up, and calculus that our toothbrush can’t get to. Also during a normal cleaning or exam, it would be easy to spot signs of oral cancer, anemia, or other medical problems.

Although the bacteria that lives in our body doesn’t cause us too much trouble, certain bacteria on the teeth can lead to cavities or gum disease. Gum disease is linked to cardiovascular disease, so catching this as early as possible can lower risk of heart attack and stroke. Getting your teeth cleaned by a professional will lower the risk of bacteria build up!
