Dr. James Shoff
Dr. James Shoff, a Utah native, did his undergraduate studies at Snow College and the University of Utah. He took a break from his studies to serve a two-year mission in Santiago, Chile where he learned Spanish, and is still fluent in Spanish today. While on his mission, he realized how important and effective smiles were for communication and decided then to become a dentist. Following his mission, he finished his undergrad degrees with an Associate and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology.
Dr. Shoff graduated from Roseman University College of Dental Medicine where he earned his dental degree (DMD). While attending Roseman, he was awarded the Outstanding General Dentistry Scholarship. He is a member of both the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. He has also completed White Cap Institute Implantology Certification furthering his expertise in the dental field.
Upon graduating, Dr. Shoff began working in West Jordan, Utah where he provided exceptional care of his patients, performing a wide range of dental procedures, including implants. In July 2016 he moved his family to Southern Colorado where he was the only dentist in the rural town Walsenburg. He is very personable, caring and makes interpersonal relationships with his patients a priority. At this point in his career he is humbled to be able to serve the people of Colorado Springs.
Dr. Shoff is married to his beautiful wife McCall, and they have four darling young children. Dr. Shoff enjoys activities such as basketball, boating, golfing and serving in his community and church callings.
Dr. Scott Whitney, Endodontist
Dr. Scott I. Whitney grew up in Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado School of Dentistry and received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in May of 2000. He was then accepted into a General Practice Residency (GPR) at the University of Colorado Hospital, where he trained in advanced techniques in Dentistry in a hospital setting. He was the Chief Resident and received a certificate of completion in June of 2002. He attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, where he specialized in endodontics and graduated in June of 2004.
Since August of 2004, Dr. Whitney has been treating patients in private practice. He’s also an Associate Professor in Endodontics at the University of Colorado School Of Dental Medicine. He has been published in numerous research articles, receiving honors and rewards for his contributions to the dental profession. He is committed to relieving pain, healing disease, and saving teeth through the utilization of state-of-the-art endodontic therapy techniques and equipment.
When not treating patients, Dr. Whitney loves spending time with his family. He enjoys all sports and outdoor activities including: running, biking, hiking, golf and snowboarding.
Dr. Jennifer L. Murphy – Cosmetic & General Dentist
Dr. Jennifer Murphy graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2006 from The Ohio State University. Prior to dental school she attended The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and also started four years on the volleyball team.
She is a member in good standing of the American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Murphy enjoys working with patients to improve their oral health and subsequently their overall health.
Dr. Murphy moved to the Colorado Springs area in 2017 from Avon, OH. She and her husband were married in 2015 at the Garden of the Gods. She enjoys traveling, running, and yoga, and is a registered yoga teacher. Dr. Murphy likes to take advantage of all that the area has to offer with her husband Mark and rescue dog Madison.
Dr. Lou Taloumis, DMD, Orthodontist
Dr. Lou Taloumis has been practicing orthodontics for over 25 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Syracuse University before receiving his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University.
Dr. Taloumis completed his general practice residency at Fort Bragg and an orthodontic residency at Fort Meade before coming to Colorado to practice orthodontics. Dr. Taloumis is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Board of Orthodontics, the Colorado Springs Orthodontic Study Club, and a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
When he’s not busy helping patients achieve the smile of their dreams, Dr. Taloumis is publishing articles or showing off his toothbrush collection from around the world, which was featured on Ripley’s Believe it or Not!

Dr. Pearl Lai – Periodontist
Dr. Pearl Lai is a Colorado native. She attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she received a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry. It was there she discovered her passion for dentistry and subsequently went on to the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. Prior to her periodontics residency at Mayo Clinic, she practiced as a dentist in the Denver-metro area. At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Lai gained extensive experience in implant placement, osseous and soft tissue grafting.
As a practicing periodontist Pearl enjoys her relationships with her patients and her colleagues as much as the care she provides. On her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, and snowboarding.

Dr. Mary Stuart – Periodontist
Dr. Stuart was a dental hygienist for 10 years prior to continuing her education as a dentist and subsequently becoming a Periodontist. She graduated from dental hygiene school in 1993 from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. After getting married to her husband Roy in 2001, she attended the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2008. She then entered active duty in the United States Army as a general dentist and attended a one year advanced general dentistry residency at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After two more years of general dentistry practice, she attended her 3 year Periodontal Residency at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia and simultaneously attended Georgia Regents University also located in Augusta, Georgia. She graduated from both schools in 2014 with her certificate in Periodontics and a masters in Oral Biology. In 2015 she challenged and passed the American Board of Periodontology and became a diplomate. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Periodontology. In 2017, Dr. Stuart was assigned to serve at Fort Carson as the Chief of Periodontics and is the periodontal mentor at the One Year Advanced Educational General Dentistry Residency. Dr. Stuart enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking in the beautiful Colorado Mountains, and attending church at First United Methodist Church in downtown Colorado Springs.
Dr. Ramie Barfuss, DMD, Endodontist
Ramie K. Barfuss graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Medical Biology in June 2001. He then attended the University of Louisville, where he graduated dental school with a D.M.D. After dental school, Dr. Barfuss entered activity duty for the United States Army where he completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. After practicing general dentistry for five years, he then completed a two year Endodontic Residency at the University of Iowa in June 2011. Since June 2011, Dr. Barfuss has been a practicing endodontist in the United States Army and in private practice. He currently serves at Fort Carson, Colorado and with Colorado Endodontic Group. He is married with four children.

Kim has 9 years of experience in the dental field and is a certified Expanded Duties Dental Assistant. She grew up in Las Vegas where she received her certification. Kim loves doing cosmetic work and does it beautifully. She is also an instructor at our Dental Assisting School. She is certified in Radiology, Nitrous Oxide, Chairside Dental Assisting, CPR, and OSHA regulations. When Kim is not working on smiles, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog Rocco.

Nicole is the lead dental assistant for a busy multi specialty practice with nine general dentists and specialists and over eleven dental assistants. She handles training and mentoring of new dental assistant team members and works hard to ensure that each team member has a seamless training experience. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Nicole handles ordering for three practices and works closely with doctors to guarantee that supplies are kept up to date and organized. Nicole Is certified in Radiology, Nitrous Oxide, Chairside Dental Assisting, CPR, and OSHA regulations.
