Straighter Teeth, Stronger Smile
All Smiles Dental Group offers all of your dental needs under one roof. When you come in for a regular dental appointment, we can refer you to our in-house orthodontic specialist, Dr. Lou Taloumis. You’ll never even need to leave our office!
Orthodontics for Children
It is recommended that children see an orthodontist by age 7 to determine whether future treatment will be required. This is about the age at which the first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in.
When your child comes in for a consultation, Dr. Taloumis will evaluate their smile and come up with a plan to guide the future growth of the jaw and permanent teeth. Many times, two-phase treatment is recommended. Early treatment helps to:
- Regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches.
- Gain space for permanent teeth.
- Avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions.
- Reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth.
- Correct thumb-sucking.
- Eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems.
Your child may not need immediate treatment after a consultation, but it is helpful to have an idea of when they will need to come back for treatment.
Orthodontics for Adults
Orthodontic treatment isn’t just a cosmetic improvement. A bad bite or crooked teeth are factors that can contribute to gum and bone loss, excessive wear on the teeth, headaches, and jaw joint problems. A variety of treatment options are available for adults with any dental problems.
Options for Orthodontics
Braces: Braces are a common treatment for children, and most kids start treatment between the ages of 9 and 14. While treatment time varies, most children have braces for 1-2 years. Learn more about braces.
Invisalign®: Invisalign is becoming a popular option for adults who want straight teeth, as it is a less visible method than braces and offers the patient more flexibility. The treatment time is usually shorter. This option is not as popular for children, as it requires self-discipline. Learn more about Invisalign.
